LAS VEGAS, Nv. -The 2014 ARCA Menards Series champion, Mason Mitchell, is poised to make a comeback to the driver’s seat for two races in partnership with SIGMA Performance Services (SPS).
Mitchell will pilot the SIGMA Performance Services, GMS Fabrication No. 23 Chevy, with his first start scheduled for the ARCA Menards West Series on Saturday, March 30th, at the half-mile Irwindale Speedway located in Irwindale, California. The 29-year-old's last ARCA national start occurred six years ago (2018) at the Iowa Speedway, where he secured a seventh-place finish.
“I've longed to return to ARCA racing,” stated Mitchell. “It's where my heart lies and has always been. The series holds a special place for me and my family. I consider myself fortunate to collaborate with Joe Farré and everyone at SIGMA, and to reunite with Kevin Reed. We all share the same mindset and goals, which are to win races.”
Kevin Reed and Mason Mitchell have previously tasted success as driver and crew chief, notably winning at the Kansas Speedway in 2015.
“Mason and I have been friends for over a decade,” added Kevin Reed. “We have full faith in each other’s abilities. When we both fulfill our roles effectively, success tends to follow.”
SPS's partnership with GMS Racing has facilitated a steep learning curve, positioning them to be competitive. “We have a track record of working with drivers from pro late models and super late models,” remarked team owner Joseph Farré. “Collaborating with an experienced driver like Mason Mitchell and seasoned crew chief Kevin Reed underscores the quality and depth of our organization, equipment, and infrastructure at SPS. Without these essential components, establishing our presence and commitment to the ARCA series would be a lengthier process.”
The champion's second start will take place at his home track, the 7/8-mile Iowa Speedway, on Friday, June 14th, with the ARCA Menards Series. Mitchell will be reconnected with long-time sponsor Karl Chevrolet. The West Des Moines, Iowa native delivered a thrilling last-lap pass to clinch victory in the 2015 event.
During his championship campaign in the 2014 ARCA Menards season, Mitchell epitomized consistency. He secured one win (Chicagoland Speedway), 12 top-five finishes, and 18 top-ten finishes in 20 races. Additionally, he captured five pole positions.
In addition to his two ARCA starts, he will embark on an extensive dirt racing schedule throughout the Hawkeye state, ranging from dirt trucks to modifieds.
